Great sandy beaches

This area has some great sandy beaches with safe swimming and the usual tourist facilities including sunbeds, parasols and small boats for rent. The beach of Puerto Pollensa is set in a beautiful bay and has a good selection of cafes and restaurants to keep you refreshed throughout the day. To the north of Pollensa you will find the beach resort of Cala San Vicente. A lovely sandy cove with translucent aquamarine waters, a nice selection of beach bars and restaurants. Then on the northern peninsular you will find the beautiful beach of Formentor. Most days during the summer months many visitors arrive by the tourist boats to overcrowd this beautiful beach. However, if you have your own transport the later part of the day can be the best time to visit as the hoards leave and the beach then comes into its own. As the sun goes down it really is a special place.

Activities and Sports

Puerto Pollensa has numerous sports and water sports available for the visitor. In the port it is possible to arrange daily yacht charter with a full crew and including lunch. Theres a number of private companies offering power boats or catamarans for hire/charter, all available with or without skippers. A sailing school which has more than 70 sail boats and over 30 sailboards for rent, as well as offering tuition to all levels from beginners to experts.

There are Dive schools in both Puerto Pollensa and Formentor. Both schools offer a professional operation with tuition available from beginner to expert.

Horse riding is available in the nearby town of Alcudia and Pollensa is becoming a very popular destination for the growing sport of Cycling. In Puerto Pollensa it is possible to hire a full range of cycles. Including mountain bikes, leisure cycles for the family to the more advanced racing equipment for the enthusiast. Fully escorted cycle tours are also available subject to demand.

Golf Pollenca

There is a scenic nine hole golf course situated just 2 kilometre from the town of Pollensa. A host of activities and amenities are available at the Golf Club Pollença, including a driving range with putting green and pitching area, a golf school with golf professional and special golf classes, club rental, trolleys and car rental, a golf shop and a superb bar and restaurant. There are a number of top quality 18 hole courses situated around the Palma area which are easily accessible with the new highway that goes through the centre of the Island.

Alcanada Golf

The Alacanada course is the only golf course situated right by the sea on the Island of Mallorca and offers the golfer some delightful views of the bay of Alcudia from nearly every green. This is an 18 hole course which has been developed in a very environmentaly sensative area and therefore has had a lot of thought in its design and consept. The pro-shop is situated in a ceturies old finca. All around the course you will view various forms of wild life with rare species of birds especialy visable in the early morning hours. The restaurant with its spectacular views over the golf course and the bay of Alcudia from its spacious terrace rounds of the delightful atmosphere of the Club De Golf Alacanada.

Restaurants and evening entertainment

The area has a great selection of restaurants for all tastes and budgets. Pollensa hotels have visited a number of restaurants in and around the area that have a good reputation and offer value plus quality. However, there are so many to choose from and many new establishments that open every year that once in the resort just ask the locals for recommendations.

"Cellar la Parra"

Good quality Mallorcan food, the service is friendly and the menu offers a great selection of freshly cooked food. Housed in a nice old Building.

"Latitud N."

Top quality restaurant with an interesting menu with a high level of service. The restaurant has a small menu of freshly prepared food and will appeal to those looking for the more modern style of cuisine as against the traditional classics.

"La Fortaleza"

Great Mallorcan food. Quality tapas, Paella, various meat, fresh fish and seafood are all available as well as a good selection of local Mallorcan wines. They also have a special children's menu which is not just your normal tourist bites.

"Bar Nou"

This restaurant offers great food at sensible prices. Typical Mallorcan food with meat, fish and paellas all being a feature of the menu. Varied wine list again offering excellent value. A little bit tucked away behind the main square, but worth searching out.

"Clivia"

Clivia is in a century old house in the heart of the town. Lovely decor of antique furnishings in the 2 dinning areas along with a delightful patio area. The food is top quality with a choice from prime cuts of meat to daily fresh fish options. The food here is both fresh and well prepared with a high level of service.

The area of Puerto Pollensa is low key when it comes to the late hours. However there are a number of cafes and bars dotted around the resort as well as in the old town that get lively during the summer months.
